50 arrested

SHENZHEN Municipal People’s Procuratorate recently approved the arrest of 50 suspects on counts of organizing and participating in a mafia-type organization in Longhua.

The triads grew in the 1990s, committing crimes like homicide, intentional assault, picking trouble, blackmailing and extortion, illegal detention and organized prostitution in Longhua District.

The case is still under investigation.

CPU smuggling

HUANGGANG Customs seized 3,542 undeclared CPUs and 160 mink furs from an inbound truck at Huanggang Checkpoint recently.

On Aug. 27, customs officers found 160 furs that were hidden behind the driving cabin of the truck, which had been declared empty. However, the driver seemed not care about the furs and was in a hurry to ask when he could leave. This raised the suspicion of the officers and when they later used detectors and imaging devices to further check the truck, they found 3,542 CPUs, with a market value of 2 million yuan (US$291,970), hidden underneath.

CHINA Southern Airlines will open a daily flight from Shenzhen to Sabah, Malaysia, starting from Sept. 28, sources from the Shenzhen company of China Southern said.

In October, the company will open a new flight to Rangoon, Myanmar, and the current flight to Dubai will be a direct flight without a stopover in Wuhan.
