Accident cause

THE e-bike rider who was killed in a dump truck accident that injured three others in Bao’an District on Wednesday was responsible for the accident, a preliminary investigation found.

At the intersection of Fanshen Road in Bao’an, the e-bike rider surnamed Chen suddenly changed lanes to the left, causing the truck driver identified as Xie driving in the same direction to the left of the e-bike to steer the truck left to avoid collision. While turning, the truck lost control and overturned due to the high speed. The spilled silt buried Chen and injured three others waiting for the green light on the safety island.

Police said Chen should bear major responsibility, and Xie was partially liable for overloading.

CPI increase

THE city’s August CPI increased by 2.9 percent year on year, according to figures released by the Shenzhen survey team of the National Statistics Bureau. In the food category, the price of vegetables rose by 3.1 percent over the previous month due to high temperatures and rainy weather. The prices of eggs and pork rose by 5 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively, over the previous month.
