HITSZ freshmen

A TOTAL of 1,722 bachelor’s, master’s and Ph. D. students arrived at the new campus of the Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen at the University Town in Nanshan District on Saturday to start their new university life.

It is the third batch of students to be enrolled to study at the university’s Shenzhen campus. The university has enrolled 760 freshmen for 10 majors this year. The Harbin Institute of Technology has three campuses in Harbin, Weihai of Shandong Province and Shenzhen.

Polluters fined

SHENZHEN’S environment authority imposed fines totaling 196 million yuan (US$28.41 million) on 1,979 polluters between January and August. In terms of number of polluters fined by the authorities, Shenzhen ranked No. 5 among Chinese cities, following Shijiazhuang, Dongguan, Suzhou and Guangzhou. Regarding the amount of the fines, Shenzhen was third following Suzhou and Xuzhou.

Fraudsters indicted

A TOTAL of 47 suspects have been transferred to Nanshan People’s Procuratorate for prosecution.

The ring leader, Zhong Shuyu, adopted the membership model and offered high commissions to attract ring members. The ring members used photos of pretty ladies on their WeChat accounts to make friends for dates. After they had won the trust of their victims, they would cheat them using various excuses like family trouble and illness.
