Police bust 15 DUI cases overnight
    2018-09-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TRAFFIC police busted 15 drivers in Xixiang Subdistrict, Bao’an District for driving under the influence of alcohol during a special operation between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. Aug. 25.

Seven teams of traffic police were dispatched on seven main roads in Bao’ an for the special operation. At 1 a.m., the police started to check each vehicle passing on the main roads.

A driver of a white sedan attempted to flee upon spotting the traffic police at around 1:22 a.m., but was quickly surrounded by the traffic police and forced to stop.

The driver was asked to take an alcohol test but would not cooperate at first, and instead blew ineffectively on the device. The traffic police had to give him a verbal warning after showing him the right way to blow air into the test machine a few times.

The driver eventually followed the traffic police’s instructions. The test result showed that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. He was fined 2,000 yuan (US$291.84). His driver’s license will be suspended for six months and have 12 penalty points added.

“The driver needs to retake the driving examination and his license will be completely withdrawn if he drives after drinking again during the penalty period,” said a traffic police officer.

During the operation, the traffic police busted a total of nine drivers for driving after drinking and six for drunk driving.
