Songgang legal center helps eight migrant workers claim unpaid salaries
    2018-09-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Songgang Subdistrict branch of the Bao’an District Legal Service Center managed to help eight migrant workers claim their unpaid salaries totaling 100,000 yuan (US$14,587) from their employers overnight Aug. 24, according to the Bao’an Daily.

The eight migrant workers from a construction site in Hongxing Community in Songgang, Bao’an District, went to the subdistrict office Aug. 20 to ask for help with their back salaries.

Staffers representing the migrant workers from the subdistrict office’s urban construction department arrived at the construction site and urged the construction company to pay the migrant workers. However, the two parties could not resolve the dispute since the company did not agree on the amount they allegedly owed the workers.

The case was later transferred to the legal service center in Songgang Subdistrict on Aug. 24. The center assembled all interested parties that night hoping to solve the conflict as soon as possible.

Through a negotiation with the employer, mediators from the legal center helped the migrant workers calculate the salaries they ought to have received. In the end, the construction company signed deals with the migrant workers and promised to pay them their salaries.

The company paid its debts to the eight migrant workers a few hours later under the legal service center’s supervision.

The migrant workers thanked the mediators at the center for helping them claim their unpaid salaries in such a short time and left positive comments.

Sun Zhiting, head of the Songgang court, said the legal service center helped resolve 20 cases in one month after it was opened in July. (Cindy Zhang)
