‘Downton Abbey’ movie gets 2019 release date
    2018-09-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE “Downton Abbey” movie is set to hit theaters in North America on Sept. 20, 2019, via Focus Features, it was announced Wednesday.

Its North America release date pits the British aristocrats of the stately Downton Abbey against Warner Bros.’ 1970s-set crime tale “The Kitchen,” starring Elisabeth Moss, Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish, and Universal’s “Little,” starring Marsai Martin as a woman who gets to relive life as her younger self, which are both currently slated for Sept. 20.

The “Downton Abbey” movie will star the original principal cast from the TV series, which ran for six seasons on PBS’ “Masterpiece Theater,” including Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Harry Hadden-Paton, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol, Penelope Wilton and winner Maggie Smith, as well as new castmembers Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips and Stephen Campbell Moore.

Julian Fellowes, who created “Downton Abbey” and wrote the film’s screenplay, is producing alongside Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge. Michael Engler is set to direct. Brian Percival, who helmed the series’ pilot, is executive-producing alongside Nigel Marchant.

“Since the series ended, fans of ‘Downton’ have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter,” said Focus chairman Peter Kujawski. “We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, in bringing back the world of ‘Downton’ to the big screen next September.”(SD-Agencies)
