Deliveryman brings food to driver stuck in tunnel
    2018-09-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A RESIDENT surnamed He is eager to find the courier who delivered food to him while he was stuck in a tunnel in Yantian District last Monday night, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

According to He, he got stuck in the Yantian Tunnel at 6:40 p.m., as a lot of trees had been felled by Typhoon Mangkhut. However, traffic remained at a standstill at about 8 p.m.

He recalled that he was really hungry at the time and immediately ordered food on Meituan-Dianping, an on-demand delivery platform, when his phone finally regained signal at about 9 p.m.

However, He was also very worried that the deliveryman wouldn’t be able to find him if the traffic suddenly cleared. At 9:17 p.m., the deliveryman arrived at the tunnel and called He for the first time. However, he couldn’t find the vehicle, as He’s car was moving at a very slow pace in the tunnel.

Twenty minutes passed, and the deliveryman still hadn’t found He. Meanwhile, He began to worry about the courier’s safety as it was getting darker outside the tunnel. At 9:44 p.m., He heard someone thumping on his car’s window. It was the deliveryman, who was panting outside the car.

He quickly opened the window and took his order. After checking the information, the deliveryman quickly turned around and left.

He was moved by the deliveryman’s perseverance and wanted to thank him in person, but when he tried to call the deliveryman, he was transferred to the automatic voice system as the order had been completed.

On Tuesday morning, He reached out to the newspaper for help. “The weather was bad that day. The tunnel was so long and so many cars were stranded,” He was quoted as saying.

“Although I left my license plate number, I knew it would be very difficult for him to find me. I didn’t expect him to be so persistent. He chased me all the way. I was so moved by his behavior that I wanted to reward him,” he said. (Zhang Yu)
