Rumormonger detained
    2018-10-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A WOMAN surnamed Jiang with the online alias “紫ZIYI” was detained by Longgang police Friday for spreading rumors regarding blood donation in Shenzhen, according to sznews.com.

The netizen made an online post Oct. 4 stating that Shenzhen had no examination procedure for blood donation, which had caused blood donors to be infected with AIDS. The post soon went viral on the social media platform Weibo, arousing heightened concern over blood donation.

On the same day, the Shenzhen Blood Center published an official statement clarifying the propriety of its blood donation procedure and accusing the woman of spreading rumors that caused a public panic.

The network police in Shenzhen cooperated with Longgang police and found the woman was indeed lying about her experience. The woman also admitted that the content of her online post was untrue, according to the police.

In accordance with relevant regulations, the woman was put under administrative detention for seven days.
