Bus lane violations

TRAFFIC police in Shenzhen issued 207 tickets to drivers heading to eastern Shenzhen on Oct. 2 for violating traffic rules, such as occupying the bus lane, using a phone while driving, not wearing a seat belt and not yielding to pedestrians.

According to regulations, drivers who use bus lanes during certain hours will be fined 300 yuan (US$43.62) for each violation.

Dry weather ahead

THE city is expecting dry weather for the next three to four days. Residents are reminded to drink more water and be cautious of fire caused by the dry weather.

According to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory, only a small amount of rain has been recorded on Dapeng Peninsula since Sept. 28. The weather has been dry since Thursday.

Rain is expected from around Wednesday to Friday, as the humidity rises.

Cabbie attacker

A MAN surnamed Lu, 32, was detained for 10 days for attacking a cab driver for no reason.

The driver surnamed Huang picked up Lu and his girlfriend in Baishizhou, Nanshan District, on the night of Sept. 22. On the way, the two had a quarrel and Huang pulled over the car at Lu’s request. As their quarrel continued, Huang decided to call the police. The woman later walked off alone, leaving the man in a bad temper. He suddenly attacked Huang, knocking him to the ground with a traffic cone, and kicked him.

Bay chief

DAPENG New Area officially inaugurated the bay chief mechanism along its 133-km coast in a move to protect its ecological environment.

The length of the Dapeng Peninsula coast in the city’s east accounts for half of the city’s coastline. Under the bay chief mechanism, coastal volunteer teams will be set up to patrol and guard against pollution and damage to the environment. An app to monitor pollution along the coastline will be used by both government agencies and local residents to monitor the environment and water quality.
