Draft on senior services seeks suggestions
    2018-10-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE new standard for community service centers serving the aging population requires a floor space of at least 750 square meters for every 20,000 people, according to a draft regulation released recently by the city government’s legislative affairs office to seek public opinion.

The draft regulation, compiled by the city’s civil affairs bureau, also requires each community to have a special officer to oversee elderly care. The ratio of such officers to elderly people should be no less than 1:500.

The city is trying to build an intelligent service platform for the elderly that is supported by the government, market and social organizations. It will be a system that offers the services for the ageing people through the government, providing a basic guarantee, collaboration, interaction between households and community service centers, and services in old folks’ homes.

The draft says that the government should work out policies that provide basic caring services for elderly people, while the public and organizations are encouraged to provide services for the elderly through donations, voluntary service and investment.

By the end of the 2017, the city was home to 288,700 elderly people, accounting for 6.6 percent of hukou holders.

Details of the regulation are available at http://fzb.sz.gov.cn, and suggestions can be emailed to zhulz@fzb.sz.gov.cn by Nov. 15. (Han Ximin)
