Dead-end road

WORK will resume on Bixin Road in Longgang District, which has remained a dead end for 10 years due to a land requisition dispute, as property owners in Nanyue Community recently signed agreement deals to make way for the construction of the last 2 kilometers of the road. Bixin Road, which extends 6.2 kilometers from Yanlong Boulevard to Baoping Road, is an important urban road for the development of the eastern part of Shenzhen.

DUI caught

A MAN was caught for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and using a fake temporary license plate, the traffic police said Sunday. The driver, surnamed Yan, was intercepted on a road near Renmin Park in Luohu in the early morning of Oct. 13 as the temporary license plate of his car caught the attention of traffic police officers. A routine breath test found Yan’s blood alcohol content was 169 mg per 100 ml, surpassing the legal limit for drunk driving of 80 mg per 100 ml. Yan admitted to using fake license plates.

Marriage scam

A WOMAN was recently caught in Guangming for marriage fraud. The woman, identified as Jiang, allegedly swindled a victim, surnamed Liu, out of 270,000 yuan (US$38,950), which she requested from Liu as a betrothal gift. However, Liu could not reach Jiang after he gave her the money and called the police.

Smuggler caught

A MAN was caught at Shatoujiao Checkpoint for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 10,000 SD cards into Shenzhen last week. The man caught the attention of customs officials when he bent to pick up his backpack after going through an X-ray check Thursday and his knees seemed unusually stiff. A further check revealed the man had taped tens of thousands of SD cards around his legs.
