Cold front

A COLD spell from North China is expected to affect Shenzhen over the weekend with the low on Wednesday morning dropping to 18 degrees Celsius, according to the city’s observatory.

This will be the third cold spell to affect Shenzhen following the one around Oct. 11 and another around Oct. 16.

The weather will mainly be overcast this week with occasional showers. Temperatures will remain around 22 degrees Celsius at night and 29 degrees in the daytime.

New DIY machines

SHENZHEN plans to install 286 more self-service machines across the city to process applications for travel permits to Hong Kong and Macao. Currently, there are 305 such machines in service around the city, 82 of which were installed this year. Official figures from the city’s exit-entry authority showed that more than 700,000 people had applied to renew travel permits to Hong Kong or Macao in the two months from mid-August to mid-October.

Metro extension

THE construction of the extension of Metro Line 9 will soon enter a new phase as the underground rails from Hongshuwan Station to Qianwan Station in Qianhai will be installed. Extending about 11 kilometers, the extension of Line 9 has nine stations, five of which are interchange stations.

The project is expected to open for service at the end of 2019, shortening the travel time between Qianhai and the Nanshan High-tech Park area to 16 minutes.
