Funds allocated

AUTHORITIES have allocated funds and supplies to the landslide-hit Tibet Autonomous Region as well as Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in Southwest China to support disaster relief work.

Granted by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) on Tuesday, a relief fund of 135 million yuan (US$19.5 million) has been allocated to landslide-hit areas along with 3,000 tents, 30,000 cotton-padded coats and quilts, and 15,000 folding beds.

The supplies will be used to support relief work, including relocating affected residents, providing daily necessities and rebuilding damaged houses, according to the MEM.

Narcotics seized

ABOUT 44 tons of narcotics were seized in the first nine months of the year, according to the National Narcotics Control Commission on Tuesday.

From January to September, police detained about 94,000 suspects in 78,000 drug-related cases, the commission said at a drug rehabilitation meeting held in Kunming, capital of Southwest China’s Yunnan Province.

The country has seen positive changes in narcotics control with drug production contained, cross-border traffic severely blown and illegal production and distribution of precursor chemicals under control, the commission said.
