BAO’AN is reaching out for more space for development by planning to build an “underground city” in the district’s CBD. The 700,000-square-meter underground project will comprise 500,000 square meters of commercial and cultural facilities for leisure activities, and 200,000 square meters of motorways and garages for vehicles, according to the district’s downtown planning office. An underground pedestrian passage will extend 9 kilometers and connect to pedestrian walkways in key business and residential areas in the above-ground CBD and Binhai Cultural Park. Bao’an CBD refers to the Binhai and Bihai areas, where 80 percent of the land above the ground have been exploited. The designed total areas of roads in the CBD reach 80 square kilometers, and so far 70 have been built, according to the office.(SD News) |
