Bao’an Maker Week held

BAO’AN Maker Week, part of the National Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Week 2018 Shenzhen Venue and Fourth Shenzhen Maker Week, held in the second week of this month showcased the entrepreneurship and innovation achievements of the district.

During the week, 23 major events were held at the main venue, Huijuxinqiao 107 Creative Park, and seven other subvenues in Bao’an.

The activities aimed to promote the district’s ever-improving government services and appealing incentives for innovators, explore the development of future technologies, arouse enthusiasm for innovation, and boost the growth of local enterprises.

The advanced manufacturing, high-end manufacturing, high-tech industry, high-end services and emerging industries have become the mainstay of the district’s economy, according to Liang Minhua, vice head of the district.

Bao’an is home to 3,030 high-tech companies, the most among all districts and counties in Guangdong. They yielded a total of 251.7 billion yuan (US$36.4 billion) in output value in the first half of this year, increasing 12.1 percent year on year and accounting for 25 percent of the city’s total.

Nearly 100 makerspaces of various sizes are spread across the district. More than 5,500 enterprises, including many engaged in drones, smart equipment, life health and big data industries, have settled down in Huijuxinqiao 107 Creative Park.

Shenzhen Maker Week was first launched as an annual event in 2015 and is an important part of the National Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Week.
