THE Third Shenzhen International Photography Week in 2018 opened at Shenzhen Art Museum on Friday. This year’s exhibition focuses on French art and has two subvenues at Shenzhen Luohu Art Museum and Dongmen Siyue College.

“Why France? Because France is the home of photography, as it was Frenchman Daguer who made a great invention — photography — in 1939, enabling all human beings to experience the joy brought by photography,” Said Sun Chengyi, chief curator of the exhibition, a famous photographer and winner of the fifth Golden Statue Award for China Photography.

In the Collection Exhibition of France Photographic History (1845-1995), there are 92 original photographs taken by more than 30 French photographers spanning over 150 years. Some 217 excellent works contributed by professional photographers and photographic artists worldwide are gathered at the Shenzhen International Photography Art Exhibition. The series by individual exhibitors display photos by Chinese and foreign photographers, such as Bruno Barbey, Marie-Paule Negre and Eric Brett. The exhibition, themed “Excellent Luohu” demonstrates the achievements and urban image of Luohu through unique perspectives.

A cultural event in Shenzhen, two sessions of “Shenzhen International Photography Week” have been held. The first and second photography week events focused on photography from the United States and Germany in 2014 and in 2016.
