Woman arrested for knifing kindergarteners
    2018-10-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

People’s Procuratorate of Bannan District in Chong-

qing Municipality yesterday announced on its official Weibo account that a local woman, 39, surnamed Liu, was arrested Saturday for attacking kindergarteners with a kitchen knife at around 9:30 a.m. at the gate of a kindergarten in Banan District on Friday morning.

All of the children who were stabbed during the attack have been receiving medical treatment and have no life-threatening injuries, according to a local government statement.

A total of 14 kids suffered injuries. Seven have minor wounds, six were severely injured and one is in critical condition.

The children were being led by teachers back to classrooms after morning exercise outside of the kindergarten gate. The woman suddenly rushed at them and attacked them with a knife. School security and staff members managed to overpower her.

Local police immediately arrived at the scene and rushed the injured children to hospital. The local government has employed the top medical resources to assist the injured children.

Founded in 1998, Banan New Century Kindergarten is a private school for the general public, according to Banan District education commission. It hosts six classes with 180 students. Now it has 175 students on campus with 17 teachers and staff as well as two security guards.

To prevent such incidents, the Chongqing government has ordered local schools to take stricter measures in campus security. (China Daily)
