Bossa nova concert by Lisa Ono
    2018-10-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Popular Japanese-Brazilian bossa nova singer Lisa Ono will treat local music lovers to a night of light and catchy tunes on New Year’s Day.

Ono began singing and playing the guitar at age 15 and her debut as a professional bossa nova singer came in 1989. Her natural voice, rhythmic guitar playing and charming smile made her a huge success and popularized bossa nova, a genre of Brazilian music, in Japan. In 1991 her album “Nana” won the Grand Prix Gold Disk Award for Jazz in Japan. The 1999 album “Dream” sold more than 200,000 copies in Japan, and since then she has established a determined position in the Japanese bossa nova community.

Ono’s voice is famously soothing and her records were introduced to the Chinese mainland in 2004, immediately becoming popular among affluent urbanites and music enthusiasts. Every year, Ono tours China, giving sold-out shows.

She has performed with many top musicians such as Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Donato, and has been performing in destinations like New York City, Brazil and across Asia. Her appearances in Japan include concerts at the Blue Note Tokyo with Toninho Horta and Emilio Santiago.

In 2012, Ono served on the judge’s panel for the first season of the Chinese singing elimination show “Asian Wave,” which was broadcast on Dragon Television in Shanghai.
