Moral education program selected as a model
    2018-11-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

赤湾学校德育课程获嘉奖

The moral education program “Green Trip, Culture Journey” by Chiwan School has earned its place on the list of exemplary experiences in moral education among primary and middle schools nationwide this year by the General Office of the Ministry of Education, the only program in Shenzhen to be given the honor.

A total of 400 exemplary experiences were selected across China after the selection and recommendation process by provincial education authorities and expert evaluation concluded.

The program “Green Trip, Culture Journey” forms an important part of the Chiwan School’s “Study Beyond Boundaries” curriculum. Chiwan is a bay area in Nanshan District endowed with a charming mountain view. It’s also home to notable cultural and historical heritage sites including Chiwan Left Fort, Chiwan Beacon, a Song emperor’s tomb and Chiwan Tianhou Temple. Additionally, it is close to the modern Prince Bay Cruise Homeport, where many modern enterprises are located.

Staying true to the educational concept of “combining teaching and practice” put forward by China’s well-known educator Tao Xingzhi and the theory of multiple intelligences by U.S. developmental psychologist Howard Gardner, the school developed a moral education course in order to facilitate students’ well-rounded development.

The multi-disciplinary course invites contributions from the family, school, community and the society. Topics include environmental protection and garbage classification, patriotism and technological experience. The course has been running since 2015.
