Sino-French opera to debut in town
    2018-11-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

“Moon Girl of the Earth,” an original opera integrating dance and poetry, is the fruit of the cooperation between Opéra National de Bordeaux and Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theater. It will greet the audience at the MixC Theater from Nov. 16 to 18.

Renowned artists from France and China cooperated closely to create this modern stage piece, which marks another cross-border creation of the recently established Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theater.

The program was organized by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of the Shenzhen Municipality and the Consulate General of France in Guangzhou. This year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up and next year is the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. To celebrate this, the organizers decided to present a stage piece utilizing opera, dance and poem.

The opera is also Shenzhen’s first original opera. It aims to cultivate the city’s capability in producing opera and enhance cultural soft power through opera.

“Moon Girl of the Earth” is a stage fable about the season, love, jealousy, rituals and responsibility. Directed by Laurent Laffargue from France, the opera is performed by Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theater.

In the opera, the sun and the moon love each other but they cannot be together due to their respective responsibilities. Their love story about reunion and separation unfolds with the four seasons of summer, autumn, winter and spring.
