GEORGE GILDER, a well-known American investor, writer and economist, officially joined Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) yesterday as an honorary professor. He also gave a speech to the university’s teachers and students following the appointment ceremony.

The professor’s international bestseller, “Wealth and Poverty,” advanced a practical and moral case for supply-side economics and capitalism during the early months of the Reagan administration and made him Ronald Reagan’s most quoted living author.

In the 1960s, Gilder also served as a speechwriter for several prominent officials and candidates, including Nelson Rockefeller, George W. Romney and Richard Nixon.

At the appointment ceremony yesterday, Xiang Shaohua, dean of SZTU’s Big Data and Internet College, granted the letter of appointment to the professor. Gilder said he anticipates making frequent visits to the university and giving speeches.

The professor also shared that he’s excited to see the new university grow in such a short period of time and he hopes the university will dedicate itself to exploring technology just as its name suggests.

During the speech after the ceremony, Gilder elaborated on his analysis of some of the latest technologies, including blockchain and big data, based on his latest book, “Life after Google.” He predicts that blockchain technology will develop significantly and change the entire landscape of the economy and the Internet in the near future.

The professor also discussed topics like the development of blockchain, social changes brought about by blockchain and the value of bitcoin with the teachers and students in attendance.
