A total of 10 students were awarded the Young Academicians title by the Nanshan Youth Innovation Academy at the fourth Young Academicians Contest, which was held by Shenzhen Shekou Yucai Education Group at Taiziwan School on November 6.

During the final round, 19 nominees surviving the eliminations showcased their innovations in diversified forms including essays, inventions, handicrafts and talents. Liu Guandong from No.2 Yucai Primary school displayed a stationary bike that allows the user to play games while working out. Zhao Lin from Xili Experimental Primary School designed a toilet that’s accessible for the elderly and the disabled. Chen Honghan from Nantou Primary School made an smart ruler that prevents nearsightedness in students. Lu Ruiyan from No.3 Yucai Primary School invented a smart key ring reminder and an auto-sensor extinguisher.

Young Academicians have been selected by the Nanshan Youth Innovation Academy from primary and middle schools in the district since 2015, and now a total of 41 students hold the title.

The Nanshan Youth Innovation Academy and its 33 branches embody the fruitful achievements of innovative education in the district. Seen as the vanguard of introducing information technologies to campuses through the establishment of “future classrooms” and “innovation labs,” the academy has been invited to exhibit at the China Hi-Tech Fair for three consecutive years. Thirty-eight other students were also given the Young Academician title by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, accounting for 50 percent of all Young Academicians across the city.
