THE monthlong Shenzhen Park Culture Season will be launched Friday with 180 activities including performances, grassland concerts and flower exhibitions in 22 parks.

Lianhua Hill Park, Shenzhen Bay Park and Shenzhen Flower and Garden Exposition Park will be the major venues for the activities.

On Friday night, Lianhua Hill Glades Music Festival will kick-start the monthlong activity series by live-casting the performance of the Berlin Philharmonic at Shenzhen Concert Hall.

Over the three days until Sunday, Philadelphia Festival Orchestra, Australian Orchestra, Shanghai Orchestra and Africa Drum Troupe will perform more than 30 classical pieces in Lianhua Hill Park.

In Shenzhen Bay Park, China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra and Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra will stage folk music performances Dec. 10 and 11, respectively, at the Sixth Shenzhen Bay Concert Festival.

The Chinese Poetry and Music Concert will be held Dec. 1 and 2 in Shenzhen Flower and Garden Exposition Park.

For the performances, residents can get tickets through “美丽深圳” or “深圳市公园管理中心,” the official WeChat accounts of the bureau.

“Starting this year, the traditional Shenzhen Park Culture Festival will be renamed Shenzhen Park Culture Season, indicating the greater number of higher-level activities that will be held to entertain residents,” said Yang Lei, an official with the city’s urban management bureau, at a news conference yesterday.

Between Nov. 17 and Dec. 6, 60,000 pots of 120 species of Bougainvillea, the flower of the city, will be lined up along the roads inside Lianhua Hill Park. The Shenzhen Chrysanthemum Flower Exhibition will be held in Donghu Park between Nov. 26 and Dec. 10, showcasing 40,000 potted flowers of 120 species.

“The flower shows have surpassed the shows in previous years, in design, form and content, as well as innovation,” said Yang.

The organizer is trying to ensure that each park has their distinctive cultural features and encourages wide participation of residents.

In Cuizhu Park in Luohu, Beijing Bamboo Orchestra, the first bamboo orchestra in China, will give a three-day performance from Dec. 4 to 6.

More than 20 kite masters will compete in Shenzhen Central Park between Dec. 1 and 4. A variety of intangible culture performances, like shadow figures, paper-cutting, calligraphy and interior painting, will be displayed in Huanggang Park in Futian District, between Dec. 1 and 9.
