WHILE the Berlin Philharmonic (BPO) is in town, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra has taken the rare opportunity to arrange study and exchange programs for music fans.

Two master classes, to be led by BPO principal trumpet player Gabor Tarkovi and principal horn Stefan Dohr, will be held this Saturday. Attendance is free.

Tarkovi, born in 1969, is from a family of musicians. He started playing the trumpet at 9 and has been the principal trumpet player of the BPO since 2004. Regularly performing in Europe, the United States and Asia, he is a renowned soloist worldwide, presenting concerts with major orchestras. He also lectures at the Herbert von Karajan Academy of the BPO and leads master classes all over the world.

Dohr, born in 1965, has been the principal hornist of the BPO since 1993.

As a soloist, Dohr has worked with many celebrated conductors, among them Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink and Christian Thielemann as well as Claudio Abbado, who also invited him to appear as principal horn with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
