SZTU holds academic, cultural events for intl. week
    2018-11-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE five-day 2018 International Week kicks off today at the Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) and will include an array of academic and cultural events featuring international cooperation between SZTU and its global partner universities of applied sciences.

Around 30 professors including presidents from globally renowned universities of applied sciences in Germany and Switzerland, along with 30 international students from these universities, are attending the international week events from today to Nov. 23.

Presidents and professors from the partner universities will present lectures and courses for the students and faculty of SZTU from today to Nov. 22 . In particular, sophomores at SZTU will be offered 19 courses while the freshmen will be provided a handful of lectures covering a wide range of topics related to high technology.

On Wednesday night, “A Night of Bavarian Culture” will be held on the campus playground, where all participants will have a chance to experience authentic Bavarian culture.

Four chefs from Studentenwerk Augsburg and Studentenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz will prepare a buffet Wednesday night with many Bavarian dishes and desserts. Along with elegant music and tasty food, participants will be immersed in Bavarian culture.

For the whole of Nov. 23, an international forum of high-level universities of applied sciences will convene at the university. Over 16 partners will be involved in this year’s forum, and the topic will emphasize what universities of applied sciences around the world can possibly contribute to shaping the future of industrial development and educational reform.

SZTU has invited Dr. Wolfgang Baier, president and professor of Regensburg University of Applied Sciences OTH, Dr. Robert Grebner, president and professor of University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt, Dr. Dirk Jacob, vice president and professor of Kempten University of Applied Sciences, Dr. Harald Riegel, vice president and professor of Aalen University of Applied Sciences, and Mr. Toni Lautenschlaeger, head of the Office of Economic Development Regensburg, to be keynote speakers and share their ideas and thoughts on the topic.

The forum will not only offer an opportunity for staffers of SZTU to enrich their understanding of the applied sciences university model, but also create a stage for the Chinese society and the academic community to discover the significant role applied sciences universities play in China’s strategy for the ongoing “Industry 4.0” trend and the country’s ambitious plan for industry upgrading.

While dozens of senior management and faculty members from the partner universities are gathering at SZTU, the university is also looking forward to their partners’ advice on strengthening its discipline framework and academic evaluation standards.

The university will sign an agreement with five Bavarian universities of applied sciences during the International Week to set up a cooperative alliance with the aim of strengthening SZTU’s international cooperation in terms of student cultivation programs and the establishment of joint labs. Message from the university

The 21st century is a globalized era with unpredictable challenges and opportunities that all humans have to face as a community of common destiny.

SZTU believes that technological innovation is the key to the future. We are part of the new generation of universities in China that were born to be international and innovative. As dynamic and vibrant as the students of SZTU are, I am confident they will become pioneers and entrepreneurs in various fields. They will not only be creative, but also have a global perspective.

For the International Week, I welcome you to Shenzhen to feel the heartbeat of China’s ongoing innovation and application of technology. I also invite you to Shenzhen Technology University to witness our passion for innovation and internationalization. Thank you!
