Prisoner found to be involved in murder
    2018-11-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MAN who was serving a jail sentence for child kidnapping has been prosecuted by the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Procuratorate for causing the death of a person during a fight that happened eight years ago, the Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday.

On the evening of Oct. 6, 2010, three young people prepared saws, pliers and other tools and planned to snip cables on a green belt in Xixiang Subdistrict, Bao’an District, according to the News.

When they arrived, they found that it was still a little early. Afraid of being discovered by patrolling security guards, they decided to wait and picked some banana leaves to lay them on the ground to rest, the News report said.

The two perpetrators of the case, identified as Pu and Huang, were off duty from the factory at that time. They came up to the three young people and talked with them for a few minutes. When they learned that they wanted to steal cables, they offered to join the gang, the News quoted the prosecutors as saying.

However, the gang refused Pu and Huang directly.

The two sides had a quarrel and subsequently started to fight. Pu and Huang had knives with them and stabbed two of the three young men. The other gang member fled during the fight, police said.

One of the injured gang members surnamed Tao found a security guard and asked for help. However, the other man surnamed Xiang was stabbed in the chest and suffered a massive hemorrhage due to heart and liver rupture.

As the case happened in the evening and the location was very remote, it increased difficulty of the police investigation. However, cigarette butts left by Pu and Huang at the scene became very important clues, according to the prosecutors.

In 2018, the DNA on the cigarette butt was found to match Pu’s. Pu fled to an inland area with his wife after committing the crime. Several years later, he was charged with kidnapping and was sentenced to six years in prison.

According to Pu’s confession, Huang is still working in Shenzhen, police were quoted by the News as saying.

The Shenzhen People’s Procuratorate recently prosecuted Pu and Huang in accordance with the law for causing the death of a person and intentional assault.
