9 dead

THE death toll in a 28-truck pile-up on an expressway in Central China’s Henan Province on Monday has risen to nine with nine others injured as of yesterday morning, local authorities said.

Officials held accountable

CHINA has held 404 officials in 10 provincial regions accountable for environmental damage after inspections by central authorities from Oct. 30 to Nov. 6, according to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

As of Nov. 16, a total of 32 people have been detained and 33.25 million yuan (US$4.8 million) of fines were imposed following the environmental inspections, the ministry said in a statement.

Museum reopens

A MUSEUM commemorating Guo Shoujing, an ancient Chinese scientist and engineer who developed Beijing’s water network in the 13th century, reopened to the public in the capital yesterday after a one-year renovation.
