100 events to celebrate reading month
    2018-11-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE 19th Shenzhen Reading Month commenced at Shenzhen Book City’s CBD outlet Nov. 3, offering citizens a total of 769 reading-related activities across the city, including 59 key activities and 710 small-scale activities.

On the same day, the launch ceremony marking the start of Reading Month for Bao’an and the sub-venues of 10 subdistricts was also held. For its Reading Month, Bao’an is presenting 100 activities in four categories, namely reading in the new era, reading classics, reading Bao’an, and reading and sharing. Altogether, there are 12 key activities.

The awarding ceremony of the Fourth Reading Initiator Award will be held at Bao’an Youth Palace on Nov. 30.

The selection of the Top 10 Laborers’ Literature 2018 will be held at the Shenzhen Book City Bao’an Store from November to December. New books by literary writers across the country are collected and experts will select and appraise the new books. The list of the selected works will be released Dec. 8 and the authors will sign agreements to settle in the Shenzhen Laborers Literature Creation and Incubation Center (Bao’an).

A special reading and camping night will be held at Shenzhen Bao’an Binhai Primary School on Nov. 30. Via online promotion and offline activities, the camping event tries to build a interactive reading platform for parents and children. Activities will include setting up tents, stage performances, an outdoor movie screening and a book exchange event.

A classics-reading event will be held in the district library, district youth palace, private schools and selected venues of each subdistrict from November to December. Mao Zedong’s poetry will be included in the reading list.

Experts and scholars on classics of traditional Chinese culture will be invited to give a series of lectures to schools and communities from November to December.

Additionally, there will be a youth poetry-reading contest and a children’s storytelling competition. (Chen Xiaochun)
