AT the International Forum for Higher Level Universities of Applied Sciences on Friday, scholars, experts and leaders from applied sciences universities in Germany and Switzerland offered tips for the development of Shenzhen Technology University.

The forum not only offered an opportunity for SZTU teachers and students to enrich their understanding of Germany’s model of the applied sciences university, but also helped the Chinese academic community discover the significant role applied sciences universities play in China’s strategy regarding the ongoing Industry 4.0 trend and industrial upgrading plan.

Tips and suggestions

Dirk Jacob, vice president and professor at University of Applied Sciences Kempten

As a university in Shenzhen, SZTU has inherent advantages in economy and industry. Through partnerships with enterprises, students can acquire advantages for future employment through internships at leading enterprises. SZTU enhances international cooperation and creates unlimited opportunities for its students. The curricula should be closely related to the demands of industry.

Dr. Wolfgang Baier, president of Regensburg University of Applied Sciences OTH

The integration with industry is a key for the success of an applied sciences university. SZTU should consider more in this aspect when setting up disciplines, because the cooperation with enterprises is crucially important for the quality of a university and students.

Dr. Harald Riegel, vice president of Aalen University of Applied Sciences

Germany has a lot of experience in running applied sciences universities. As the first university to establish a partnership with SZTU, Aalen will offer support by adding more exchange programs and inviting SZTU teachers to Aalen as guest professors.

Frank Friedrich Pohlau, dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Precision Engineering and Information Technology, Nuremberg Institute of Technology

The disciplines established by SZTU are based on industrial demand. I suggest that a technology university strengthen cooperation with art and music schools to liberate students’ minds and realize creativity. The creative design college of SZTU is a good practice. It will be helpful in disciplinary integration and breaking the boundaries of knowledge.
