Autumn season

SHENZHEN finally entered autumn Thursday, 19 days later than average.

Meteorologically speaking, autumn starts in Shenzhen when the temperature falls below 22 degrees Celsius for five straight days. On Wednesday night, temperatures dropped by 6-8 degrees Celsius in the city, marking the successful entering into autumn. Shenzhen usually enters autumn Nov. 3.

There will be scattered rain this week.

Dustbins removed

MT. Wutong Park management removed 500 dustbins dotted along the trails and roads in the scenic park, limiting them to key locations and entrances. The move is to foster anti-littering habits among hikers and visitors.

Sea burials

RESIDENTS with Shenzhen hukou who have taken part in sea burials for their deceased ones will each family be rewarded 3,000 yuan (US$432) by the city’s funeral and cemetery administration.

The move is to encourage environmentally friendly methods of handling the remains of our loved ones. On the eve of the 20th anniversary of implementing the sea burial rules Friday, the administration organized sea burials for the families of 57 deceased people.

Ferry services

THE ferry operator will open services between Shenzhen and Zhongshan, on the other side of the Pearl River, to seven round-trips of ferry services a day starting Nov. 30. The ferries will operate between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Each ferry carries an average of 60 passengers a day.
