A RASH of U.S. combat deaths in Afghanistan puts a spotlight on a stalemated war that is testing President Donald Trump’s commitment to pursuing peace with the Taliban. Three U.S. servicemembers were killed in a roadside bombing Tuesday, three days after an American was fatally shot — apparently accidentally by an Afghan soldier. The U.S. military said Tuesday three other service members were wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated near the city of Ghazni in Afghanistan’s eastern Ghazni province. One American contractor was also wounded. The identities of the American casualties were not provided, pending notification of their families. Lt. Ubon Mendie, a spokesman for the U.S. forces, said the wounded service members and contractor were evacuated and were receiving medical care. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. The Taliban have an extremely active presence in Ghazni province and attempted to take over the capital in August. (SD-Agencies) |
