Hi-tech contributes 1/3 of added value to city’s GDP
    2018-12-04  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE production volume of the city’s high-tech industry realized an 11.24-percent growth between January and September to 1.66 trillion yuan (US$238.85 billion).

Its added value increased by 12.54 percent to 546.66 billion yuan, accounting for 29 percent of the added value of the city’s GDP for the first three quarters of this year.

The city’s total investment in research and development reached 74.3 billion yuan, an increase of 13.18 percent over the same period of last year, accounting for 4.2 percent of GDP, a meeting at the electronic information industry final of the China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest heard.

A total of 31,136 enterprises in China signed up for the contest, an increase of 10.6 percent over the previous year.

Most of them are from the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta areas. Among the Guangdong enterprises, half are from Shenzhen, according to the organizer, Torch High Technology Development Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Statistics showed the participating enterprises own a total of 154,000 IPs.

“Shenzhen is now home to 11,200 high-tech enterprises, and the number of ICT applications in 2017 reached 20,457, which was 43 percent of the country’s total, maintaining the leading place for 14 straight years,” said Huang Zhen, deputy director of Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology and Innovation Commission.

Huang praised the electronic information contest, saying that it perfectly matched Shenzhen’s industry development strategy.

“Electronic information is a pillar industry in China. Among China’s Top 100 electronic information enterprises, 18 are in Shenzhen. Huawei, ZTE and BYD each occupy positions in the top 10. The other top 10 enterprises also either have headquarters or regional headquarters in Shenzhen,” said Huang.
