Suicide attempt

A MAN who attempted to commit suicide at Dameisha Beach Park was saved by three swimmers Saturday night.

The swimmers were camping on an island off the Dameisha beach when one of their friends at Dameisha Beach Park sent them a text message saying that they saw a man drowning.

Three of the swimmers took paddle boards and rowed through the darkness to the scene, which was about 500 meters away from the island.

The three finally pulled the man, in his 30s, to the shore and took him to a hospital with the help of other people on the beach.

The man attempted suicide following a quarrel with his family. He was picked up by his family after receiving treatment at the hospital.

Registered volunteers

THE number of registered volunteers in Shenzhen has reached 1.3 million and the city has 8,515 social workers, figures from Shenzhen Municipal Civil Affairs Office showed.

Child killed

A 4-YEAR-OLD child, who was walking hand in hand with her mother, was fatally run over at a crosswalk by a car that failed to slow down in Bao’an District on Saturday.

A video shows the girl was walking across the road with her mother at a crosswalk without a traffic light. The driver, surnamed Zhang, didn’t slow down and continued towards the mother and daughter. The mother was narrowly missed by the car, while the daughter was run over.

Zhang bears full responsibility for his negligence, according to the traffic police authority.

Weekend cold spell

TEMPERATURES are expected to fall to as low as 10 degrees Celsius after Friday, when a cold spell from the north will affect the city. The weather before Friday will remain warm.
