Light show halted

THE light show at Futian CBD will be suspended between Dec. 10 and 15, the week before 2018 Shenzhen International Marathon, Shenzhen Municipal Urban Administration Bureau announced on its official microblog.

During the period, preparations will be made in the square of Shenzhen Civic Center for the opening of the annual marathon event that is slated for Dec. 16.

The light show will resume on the night after the marathon.

One of the drivers was detained for driving without a driver’s license.

Fugitive caught

A BUSINESSMAN was recently arrested for a murder he allegedly committed 23 years ago.

Shenzhen Railway Police Department found a clue leading to the suspect, surnamed Liu, while examining criminal records. The 44-year-old Liu, a native of Guangxi, joined a gang in 1993 and allegedly killed a debtor with a hunting rifle in the presence of other ring members in September 1995.

Liu then changed his identity and fled to Shenzhen. During his time on the run, he became a businessman.

Top 500 enterprises

A TOTAL of 27 enterprises in Shenzhen have been listed among the Top 500 Chinese Enterprises, accounting for half of the Guangdong companies on the Top 500 list. It showed the city’s competitiveness in the high-tech, high-end service, Internet and advanced manufacturing industries.

The Shenzhen enterprises include Huawei, CIMC, BYD, Skyworth, Evoc, China Ping An and China Merchants Bank.

Bullet smuggler

A TRAVELER was recently intercepted at Futian Checkpoint for illegally carrying 1,750 bullets across the border into Shenzhen.

The man, who wasn’t identified, caught the attention of customs officers as he looked nervous and tried to avoid eye contact with the officers at the checkpoint. He was stopped for an inspection and customs officers found bullets in his jeans pockets and in his backpack.

He has been handed over to the anti-smuggling department for further investigation.
