City issues yellow alert for cold

THE minimum temperatures in the mornings this week will reach 10 degrees Celsius due to the reinforcement of cold air from the north, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said.

The observatory issued a yellow alert for cold Saturday. Residents had a cold weekend, with lows around 13-14 degrees Celsius.

The cold air will be reinforced after a period of occasional sun Tuesday, dropping further Wednesday and Thursday. The minimum temperature will fall to below 10 degrees Celsius.

The cold weather will end Friday. Due to the weather, the city’s shelters will open to homeless people. The observatory reminded residents to take precautions against the cold and to especially avoid using an unflued gas-powered water heater, because it could cause carbon monoxide poisoning in a poorly ventilated bathroom.
