TWO teams stood out among 21 to win the top prizes in the final of the Multilingual Tax Talents Translation Competition of Shenzhen Tax Service, State Administration of Taxation (SAT), on Friday afternoon.

The competition, which aimed to give full play to the language skills of the multilingual tax talents, kicked off in November and consisted of a preliminary, featuring a translation of a piece from a foreign language into Chinese, and a final presentation of the translation in Chinese.

The joint Spanish team, representing the Luohu office and Shenzhen Tax Service’s fourth branch, and the English team, representing the Longgang office, won the first prizes.

The translations, covering a wide range of topics — from the taxation of corporations in Switzerland, the tax strategies and planning of Spain, criminal investigations over taxation in the United States and tax revenue mobilization in Romania to e-tax in Japan and India’s goods and services tax — were presented in the form of news coverage, press conference, mock debate, global tax conference and short sketch.

“This competition is mind-blowing,” said Huang Suhua, deputy director of the International Tax Department of the SAT. “It showcases the capabilities and vitality of Shenzhen’s multilingual tax talents. There is an urgent need to cultivate more tax talents with international and strategic visions, who are proficient in foreign languages and excel in the tax and financial systems of different countries.”

Currently, Shenzhen Tax Service boasts more than 200 high-end talents with mastery of such languages as English, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, German, Japanese and Korean.

“Shenzhen Tax Service has the largest number of foreign language talents speaking the largest number of foreign languages in the country,” said Zhang Guojun, director of Shenzhen Tax Service. “Foreign language talents are one of Shenzhen Tax Service’s unique advantages and the most eye-catching calling card in our strategy for going global. ”
