School of microelectronics to be established
    2018-12-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Nanshan District Government recently signed an agreement with the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) to build the Shenzhen-Hong Kong School of Microelectronics in Baishiling, Nanshan District, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday.

Regarded as the pearl of the electronic information industry, the integrated circuit serves as a driver for facilitating the digital transformation of manufacturing. The establishment of the school will provide intelligent support for the integrated circuit industry and the development of third-generation semiconductors in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and throughout China.

It has been said that the construction area for the school will be about 60,000 square meters. The school aims to become a national demonstration school in this field. In the future, it intends to provide talent training programs for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees based on the demands of the market.

The school features cross-border cooperation and coordination and will also seek brilliant teaching resources from key universities in the area, such as Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Macao and University of Hong Kong.

Additionally, the school will actively cooperate with Shenzhen enterprises in this regard, conducting industry and academy collaborations to forge four research centers and one research platform for micro-nano technology. On Thursday, SUSTech signed an agreement with ARM China to jointly build a SUSTech-ARM China Cooperation Lab for the design of advanced chips.

“We hope to develop microelectronics into a first-class subject within five years,” said Wang Su, a planning director at the school. (Wang Jingli)
