Tibetan dancers perform at a ceremony marking the launch of an air route between Shangri-La and Shenzhen yesterday. Organized by the tourism development commission in Diqing prefecture, Yunnan Province, the event was also held to promote tourism in Shangri-La and to expand space for cooperation between the two regions, which are complementary in terms of resources. James Hilton’s novel “Lost Horizon,” which was published in 1933, features a peaceful valley called Shangri-La tucked somewhere in the mountainous Yunnan countryside. Shangri-La was confirmed to be located in Diqing prefecture some 20 years ago. Sun Yuchen |
