Truck subsidies

DUMP truck operators will receive subsidies of up to 230,000 yuan (US$33,333) for retiring each fuel-powered dump truck, according to a notice from the transport commission.

The city will eliminate diesel-powered dump trucks by May 31 next year. Those who use electric dump trucks will receive a reward of 800,000 yuan per truck.

Bike service halted

THE rental service of bikes with fixed docking stands in Futian District will be suspended Jan. 1 due to loss of users amid competition from app-based bikes.

Users of the service can get their deposits refunded by the end of December by bringing the appropriate documents (ID card, bike card and red bill) to the Huanggang Service Station near the Yitiancun Housing Estate bus stop at the intersection of Yitian Road and Fuqiang Road.

Racing driver caught

A DRIVER who raced his car through red lights and in the wrong direction was caught four hours after his violations were posted online.

A video clip police received via their official microblog shows the speed of the vehicle reaching 200 kilometers per hour.

Police caught the driver, surnamed Liu, on Sunday. The video clip was put online by Liu’s friend who was the passenger in his car. His friend later deleted the video clip, but a netizen had already forwarded the video to police.

A police investigation showed that Liu raced his car on Shuiguan Expressway, ran through red lights on three roads in Longgang District and drove against traffic twice. Liu is also suspected of illegally refitting his vehicle.

Liu admitted to committing the violations, saying he thought there were no monitoring cameras and the road conditions were good.
