6 scalpers caught, 1,150 tickets confiscated
    2018-12-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN railway police department caught six people suspected of being involved in scalping train tickets Wednesday, the first day of a 90-day citywide action against ticket scalping for the 2019 Spring Festival holiday travel season.

A total of 1,150 tickets were seized Wednesday.

Police officers caught a man surnamed He, the owner of a news stand near Shenzhen Railway Station in Luohu District, and seized 129 tickets from him. He claimed he was selling the train tickets for others by charging a 20-yuan (US$2.90) commission for each ticket.

On Tuesday, police officers caught another man, identified as Li, suspected of scalping tickets at a ticket office on Caitian Road and seized 378 tickets.

He and Li are among the six suspected of scalping tickets.

Train tickets for the Spring Festival travel season will go on sale Dec. 23, 30 days ahead of the 40-day transport peak season that is scheduled to start Jan. 21, 2019. It has been a long-held tradition for Chinese people to reunite with their families during the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year. Millions of people travel home by train for the most important festival in China. It has been called the largest annual human migration in the world. Rail transport experiences the biggest challenge during the period.

Starting Jan. 5, when the new national railway schedule takes effect, Shenzhen West Railway Station will add two passenger trains to Yiyang and Yongzhou in Hunan Province.

Train K9078 to Yiyang will leave Shenzhen at 8 p.m. and arrive in Yiyang at 8:16 a.m. the following day. The fare for a hard seater is 184 yuan.

Train K9126 to Yongzhou will leave at 8:34 p.m. and arrive in Yongzhou at 8:03 a.m the next day. The fare for a hard seater on the Yongzhou train is 156 yuan. (Han Ximin)
