Tidal lane put into use on Hongling N. Road

A TIDAL lane for southbound vehicles along Hongling North Road between Bagua No. 4 Road and Sungang Road was put into operation yesterday.

During the morning rush hour period, between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., vehicles can use the 800-meter southbound section.

The move is to improve road efficiency and relieve congestion for vehicles from Qingping and Shuiguan expressways, Yuping and Beihuan boulevards and Honggang Road traveling to Luohu.

Tests showed that the use of the tidal lanes can ensure that vehicles at the intersections can pass within a traffic light cycle, which can help move the end of morning rush hour from 9:40 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The practice was adopted following the good results on Buji and Wenjin roads when the use of tidal lanes was trialed in October 2016. Police also plan to add a tidal lane to Caitian Road this month.
