Starting Thursday, all public hospitals in Shenzhen will remove the markups on medical consumables and adjust the prices of 974 medical services, the city’s health and family planning commission announced Monday.

It is the third phase of price adjustments in the medical sector, which is expected to reduce the revenue of public hospitals by 620 million yuan (US$89.9 million), according to the health authority.

After the adjustment, the total medical expenses of patients will drop by 72 million yuan. It is estimated that the average cost of each outpatient visit and a hospital bed per day will decrease by 0.36 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.
