Traffic fatalities

THREE fatal traffic accidents were reported in Longgang, Longhua and Yantian districts in December.

A 2-year-old child in Bantian, Longgang, was among the three deaths related to the traffic accidents. Another death was reported near Mission Hills golf club and the third in a container yard in Yantian, police said at a news conference Sunday.

So far this year, the city has reported 142 deaths related to traffic accidents, a drop of 5.96 percent from 2017. However, the number of fatalities caused by dump trucks increased by 19.23 percent to 31. Fatalities related to e-bikes rose by 19 percent to 109.

Arbitration mechanism

SHENZHEN Court of International Arbitration will introduce, for the first time in China, a selective re-arbitration mechanism to solve disputes in international trade and investment.

The new mechanism, in line with international practices, allows parties to apply for re-arbitration, and thus offers a second chance at mitigation for both parties in solving disputes, especially those involving a large amount of money. The court also released a list of 890 arbitrators from 76 countries and regions for selection.

The new mechanism will take effect Feb. 21, 2019.

Medical insurance

THE city’s social insurance and fund management bureau is working on policies to settle and cover medical treatment costs, including clinic and inpatient costs, for elderly people who have transferred their hukou to the city under the names of their children.

Ex-official prosecuted

A FORMER department director of the city’s transport commission was prosecuted recently for corruption. Ge Wei was charged with taking 2.15 million yuan (US$311,594) in bribes between 2015 and 2018 in biddings for road maintenance projects.
