A NEW technology, allowing consumers to pay with their face, was launched recently at five new supermarkets operated by Rainbow Department Store, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported. Additionally, self-weighing machines and self-checkout machines were introduced at the stores. Consumers can even pay on an app of the store while they shop, making the shopping experience much easier. “The application of these technologies reflects customers’ preference for efficiency and a better shopping experience,” said a staffer at the store. For many customers, lining up to pay is not an enjoyable shopping experience. During the festival or promotional periods, customers often have to wait for a long time to check out. Situations like this have pushed retailers to figure out ways to decrease checkout time, which in turn helps them increase revenue. Mobile payment platforms, such as WeChat and Alipay, are accepted by almost every supermarket in the city. Behind this phenomenon, security is an issue worth considering. The Daily report said no pin was required to make a payment after binding the app with a phone. Some consumers on the site have expressed their concerns over security. (Wang Jingli) |
