Per capita sports-related consumption reaches ¥2,500
    2018-12-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SPORTS-RELATED consumption among Shenzhen residents totaled 31.99 billion yuan (US$4.63 billion) in 2017, putting per capita sports consumption at 2,568.54 yuan, according to a survey released recently by the city’s culture, sports and tourism bureau, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday.

According to statistics, the total output of the sports industry in Shenzhen reached 70.22 billion yuan in 2017, an increase of 26.8 percent over the previous year. The average annual growth rate of the sports industry output was 22.4 percent between 2011 and 2017.

Meanwhile, the city has invested 5.58 billion yuan in improving the public fitness environment and boosting the development of the sports industry.

In 2017, the proportion of physical sports consumption, participatory sports consumption and spectator sports consumption among Shenzhen residents was 47.2 percent, 45.2 percent and 7.6 percent, respectively. The average per capita consumption of the three sports categories was 1,211.39 yuan, 1,160.74 yuan and 196.41 yuan, respectively, according to the survey.

In recent years, Shenzhen has attached great importance to sports activities, and its sports market has gradually expanded.

Thirty major international and domestic individual sporting events and more than 100 professional league matches are held in Shenzhen each year, attracting more than 2 million spectators.

Residents can view spectacular sporting events via live broadcasts, video broadcasts and highlight playback.

The survey also revealed that the proportion of Shenzhen citizens participating in marathons or other running events, tennis, and ice or snow events stands at 8.1 percent, 6.1 percent and 5.2 percent, respectively, which indicates that these sports share a promising market and will gradually become burgeoning channels of sports consumption.
