CPR performed to save man with cardiac arrest
    2018-12-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A YOUNG man who passed out in the office due to sudden cardiac arrest was saved from the life-threatening situation by his boss who performed CPR until an ambulance arrived to take him to a hospital, sznews.com reported.

The man in his 20s, identified by his family name Wang, was out of danger after receiving emergency treatment at Luohu District Hospital. Wang was transferred to the ICU after his condition had become stable following emergency treatment.

Given that Wang was still in a coma in the ICU, the hospital invited cardiologists and a neurologist for consultation to decide on further treatment.

After undergoing cerebral resuscitation and treatment to prevent a lung infection, Wang finally regained consciousness in five days. He will be transferred to the ICU in the cardiology department when his condition is stable.

The proper CPR performed on Wang by his boss and colleagues before the arrival of the ambulance was vital in saving Wang’s life, the sznews.com quoted medical staff as saying. The CPR provided enough time for the medical staff to give Wang further treatment, the report said.

A doctor with the emergency department of the Luohu hospital, surnamed Peng, said that when a person’s heart suddenly stops beating, one minute can decrease the success rate of the rescue by 10 percent. If the heart stops beating for 10 minutes, the survival rate is zero. As a result, Peng called on residents to learn basic CPR in case of an emergency. (Wang Jingli)
