宝藏男孩
    2019-01-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“宝藏” means “treasure,” and “男孩” means “boy.” The term, often used by fans to describe idols they like or dislike, can have different meanings depending on the context. The nickname “treasure boy” was first used on Chinese actor Yang Yang, who quoted a line from TV series “Love O2O” that says “If you have treasure on you, an encounter with hungry wolves will be inevitable” to respond to inquiries of his rumored love affair with actress Song Qian. The term is later used on an idol either because he has many unexplained rumors or undiscovered talents, depending on the context. Similarly, there is the term “treasure girl” (宝藏女孩).

Example:

A: 今年好多美剧值得期待啊。

Jīnnián hǎoduō měijù zhídé qīdài a。

There are many American TV shows worth watching this year.

B: 我最期待的是《怪奇物语》第三季,一群宝藏男孩把我圈粉了。

Wǒ zuì qīdài de shì 《guàiqí wùyǔ 》dìsānjì,yīqún bǎozàng nánhái bǎ wǒ quānfěn le。

The most anticipated for me personally is “Stranger Things” Season 3, whose talented young actors have won me over.
