THE Shenzhen Spring Festival Flower Fair will reopen in halls 1 and 6 of Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center from Jan. 31 to Feb. 4.

This is the first time that the flower market will be held indoors for weather reasons, according to the organizer of the flower fair. Previously, the flower market, a traditional event that spiced up the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year, had been held outdoors on Aiguo Road in Luohu District since 1986.

It was closed for the past three years, and district-level flower markets were organized instead.

The 2019 city-level Spring Festival flower fair will not only give residents a chance to buy flowers for the Spring Festival but also stage various kinds of flower-related cultural activities, such as a floriculture performance, lectures and traditional Chinese cultural activities like a folk performance, an exhibition of intangible cultural heritage and musical flash mobs, to celebrate the Spring Festival, according to the organizer.

The organizer will designate a special space for a charity bazaar, where artworks using parts of trees felled by Typhoon Mangkhut will be exhibited, and educational sites to encourage flower recycling through garbage classification.

The flower fair will be divided into different sections featuring different flowers. Major enterprises from the city’s flower industry, as well as from Taiwan and other regions in China, will set up exquisite booths in Hall 6.

The organizer also invited logistics companies to provide shipping services for shoppers. Shoppers can also pick up the flowers they buy at the fair at temporary parking spaces outside the convention center. A total of 150 volunteers will be on site to provide help. During the fair, the underground parking spaces at the convention center will be open to the public. However, residents are advised to use public transport because of limited parking spaces.

Security checkpoints will be set up at each entrance and the fair will strictly control the flow of visitors. Residents can check related information via text messages or the on-site LED screen. The city’s urban management bureau also has a special section on the official “Meilishenzhen” WeChat account to release information on the flower fair.

The opening hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. between Jan. 31 and Feb. 3 and from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Feb. 4.

The district-level flower fairs will also be held. Other flower-related events, such as the Camellia flower show in the Shenzhen International Garden and Flower Exposition Park in Futian District, the Chinese rose flower show in the Shenzhen People’s Park in Luohu District, and 2019 orchid flower show in Bao’an District, will also be held.
