World famous tennis player and five-time Grand Slam singles champion Maria Sharapova visited Shenzhen MSU-BIT University and had cordial exchanges with teachers and students at the university on December 27.

In a good mood, Sharapova took photos with her finger pointing to a gleaming five-pointed star at the top of the main building of the university.

“When I came to play this tournament in early 2018, I saw this huge building just behind the stadium and I was wondering what it was because I notice the star which made me think of the universities in Moscow. Later I found out that it is a jointly-built university between China and Russia,” said Sharapova.

“I am really happy to visit the university and talk with the students. Though I haven’t entered the building yet, it’s quite beautiful and I think it is going to be an iconic building. But of course, the most important thing is the education and culture on campus, which is what students from around the world all strive for.”

Built in the strong architectural style characteristic of Russia, the main building of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University is located at the permanent campus of the university in Longgang District, Shenzhen with a total of 21 floors and 156.4 meters in height.

The construction of the permanent campus is going smoothly and entering its last stage. In 2019, the university will move into its permanent campus according to schedule.

Shenzhen MSU-BIT University is a non-profit higher educational institution with independent legal entity status, jointly established by the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, Lomonosov Moscow State University and Beijing Institute of Technology. (Chen Xiaochun)
