SHENZHENERS have the strongest risk awareness when traveling among their peers across the country, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday, citing a recent travel accident insurance report.

The 2018 travel accident insurance report was released by Ctrip, a major online tourism service platform in the country.

According to the report, an increasing number of Chinese tourists are buying insurance before traveling. In 2018, the number of Chinese travelers who bought tourism insurance before taking overseas trips increased by 20 percent from the previous year.

In terms of risk awareness, Shenzhen was followed by Ningbo in Zhejiang Province, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou in Henan Province, Hefei in Anhui Province, Ji’nan and Qingdao in Shandong Province, Wuxi in Jiangsu Province and Wuhan in Hubei Province, according to the report.

The report said 90 percent of claim settlements made last year were related to flight delays and flight changes. Ctrip said in the report that flight delays are most seen on island trips because of weather.

Tourists tend to buy travel insurance when they plan to conduct some risky activities such as swimming in the sea or snorkeling. Tourists also take a destination’s safety into consideration when purchasing insurance, and Europe reported the most theft and robbery cases.

A huge portion of medical claims are correlated with accidental falls and injuries, and the elderly are among the most vulnerable to accidental falls, the report said. (Wang Jingli)
